Power Inductors

A power inductor, also known as a coil or a reactor, is a two-terminal passive electronic component used to store energy in the form of magnetic field.

What is a Power Inductor?

Power inductors are important in applications where voltage conversion is necessary because they yield lower core losses. Power inductors are also used in order to store energy, provide lower signal loss in system design and filter EMI noise. A power inductor is an electronic component which receives as well as stores electrical energy by using a magnetic field. This magnetic field is usually created with a tightly coiled conductive wire. A power inductor maintains a steady current in an electrical circuit with a varying current and/or voltage.

Types of Power Inductors

There are many different kinds of power inductors. we stock many of the most common types categorized by DC Resistance, Nominal Inductance, Tolerance, Maximum Rated Current, Case Size/Dimension, Packaging Type and Shielding. The parametric filters on our website can help refine your search results depending on the required specifications.

The most common values for Nominal Inductance are 4.7 µH, 10 µH and 22 µH. We also carry power inductors with Nominal Inductance up to 100 µH. DC Resistance can have a range between 0.0298 mΩ and 32 kΩ, with the most common power inductors having a DC Resistance of 20 mΩ or 40 mΩ.

Power Inductors from

Has a full power inductor selection from several manufacturers that can be used to design a power supply inductor, high power inductors, SMD (surface mount) power inductors, high current inductor or for any circuit that may require a power inductor. Simply choose from the power inductor technical attributes below and your search results will quickly be narrowed in order to match your specific power inductor application needs.

If you have a preferred brand, we deal with several semiconductor manufacturers such as Cooper Bussmann, NIC Components, Sumida Electronics, TDK or Vishay, among other manufacturers. You can easily refine your power inductor product search results by clicking your preferred power inductor brand below from our list of manufacturers.

Applications for Power Inductors:

Power inductors have three main applications:

  • Conducted EMI noise filter in AC inputs

  • Low pass frequency noise filter for low frequency ripple current noise

  • Energy storage in DC-to-DC converters.

SMD (surface mount) power inductors are used in order to store energy while filtering EMI currents with a low-loss inductance in applications where voltage conversion is performed.
